newest soundtrack, favorite composer
The first time I ever noticed soundtracks and the power they held was when I watched Titantic in the theatre (for the third time…guilty). I saw it with my uncle Doug, who at the end stood up and said, “That sounded a lot like Apollo13.” I remember being intrigued how the music was similar. Thus began my love affair with film soundtracks and original scores. Both films mentioned were composed and conducted by Jame Horner; THE composer of the 90’s.
With films like “A River Runs Through It”, “Cocoon”, ” Braveheart”, “Apollo 13″, “Titanic”, “Casper”, “Enemy at the Gates” (just to name a few) James Horner became my inspiration; my hero for orchestral film music.
I was disappointed to loose touch with him after the 90’s. After “A Beautiful Mind” and “The Perfect Storm” he seemed to disappear. He scored “The Spiderwick Chronicles” which was recycled “Casper” material and “The Boy in the Striped Pajamas” sounded an awful lot like “A Beautiful Mind”.
It wasn’t until lastnight I was on iTunes looking around and found this amazing soundtrack for “The New World”. Completely original, yet Horneresque. Filled with color, texture and magic, it’s what made me follow him from the beginning. I have yet to see the film.
Check it out when you get the chance. If you appreciate film soundtracks and like Horner’s style then you’ll love this one.

Have you listened to the soundtrack for “The Boy In Stripped Pajamas?” It is by James Horner, pretty good.
