free urban textures

In an effort to drive traffic and create a niche I’m offering free texture images on this site. This is definitely something I want to ramp up and do more often. They are completely free and something I’m offering designers that are looking for textured elements in their designs.

Last weekend I was in NYC and took some cool urban texture pictures of stone, metal, tiles and anything else that caught my eye. They are yours for the taking to use in your designs. No questions asked… although, I would like to see what you came up with :-)

Enjoy!

life lessons from a volunteer fire fighter

“Don’t wait. If you have something to give, give it now. Not every day is going to offer us the chance to save somebody’s life, but every day offers us an opportunity to affect one.” Wow. This talk is only 4:00 and still delivers a great message.

I’m not sure how people get invited to give these talks, but everyone is on point and is uber inspiring. How do you affect people’s lives on a daily basis?

Why I’ve disconnected Twitter from Facebook

I’ve been doing some thinking and planning for my twitter feed and feel it’s time to say goodbye to its partnership with my Facebook status. Since I’ve been on both Facebook and Twitter the two have been linked which was great for the time it was connected. I was able to kill two birds with one stone and reach two different audiences with one tweet. What’s wrong with that you ask?

Well that’s just it. They are two different audiences and I’ve seen a pattern of what gets retweeted on Twitter and what causes conversation on my Facebook profile. Seldom does the same get tweet get equal attention on Facebook and Twitter.

Here is my reasoning for the disconnect:

new social network is crazy good

There’s a new social network in town and it’s Crazy Good.

Imagine what it would be like if you got paid $1 for each of your friends on Facebook. Then a $1 for each of their friends and a $1 for their friends and their friends and THEIR friends. It would start to add up.

Target: Kaleidoscopic Fashion Spectacular

What do you call 20 sensory-overloaded minutes fashioned out of 60+ dancers, an original visual program created by Daft Punk’s light designers, a new pop symphony from one-half of N.A.S.A., and over 155 rooms of New York’s Standard Hotel? You could start with “Spectacular,” but even that seems limiting.

This one-time-only show for Target’s 2010 fall apparel collection is just about the coolest and most unique event Mother’s ever produced!

Richard Simmons + New Zealand Air = Awesomeness

I love it when big companies know how to have fun and show they have sense of humor. Especially when it comes to boring things like airline safety procedures. Yes, it’s serious business, but it’s also important to not take yourselves too seriously… and New Zealand Air has done just that with their new safety procedure video:

bachelor cooking: chicken

Every Sunday night I do the same thing: cook a mess a chicken (said in my best Southern accent). It’s so easy and tastes so great that I thought I’d share how to do it. I have to give credit to my parents for introducing me to this method of quick and easy cooking.

Guys, this is a quick and easy way to cook a bunch of chicken at one time and have either for lunches or for other meals. You can easily add these chunks to grilled pizzas (that recipe is forth coming in the warmer months), salads, tacos, soups… the possibilities are endless for this… so let’s get to it.

chase the lion

A good friend of mine showed me this quote from the book “In a Pit with a Lion on a Snowy Day” and it’s full of life-guiding mantras. I had the honor of reading it aloud at a service for young adults at the church I’m currently attending. I can totally hear Morgan Freeman reading this:

Quit living as if the purpose of life is to arrive safely at death. Grab life by the mane. Set God-sized goals. Purse God-ordained passions. Go after a dream that is destined to fail without divine intervention. Keep asking questions. Keep making mistakes. Keep seeking God. Stop pointing out problems and become part of the solution. Stop repeating the past and start creating the future. Stop playing it safe and start taking risks. Expand your horizons. Accumulate experiences. Consider the lilies. Enjoy the journey. Find every excuse you can to celebrate everything you can. Live like today is the first day and last day of your life. Don’t let what’s wrong with you keep you from worshipping what’s right with God. Burn sinful bridges. Blaze a new trail. Criticize by creating. Worry less about what people think and more about what God thinks. Don’t try to be who you’re not. Be yourself. Quit holding out. Quit holding back. Quit running away. Chase the lion.

Pretty powerful, huh? What does it inspire you to do?

legend of the fist: the return of chen zhen

I just stumbled upon this amazing trailer for a new movie out this April called “Legend of the Fist: The Return of Chen Zhen.” And it. Looks. Epic.

I’ve never seen a martial arts film set this time period before. This looks to be a sure fire winner for folks that like sleek cinematography and action-packed scenes. I’m excited to see this one.

about me

My dream is to be part of something bigger than myself and to influence culture for the greater good.
